Overview of the Map View Feature
The WorkSights Map View is an illustrative tool available for accounts that include this feature in their plan. It shows a geographical representation of where your team members have been doing work on a particular day.
How the Map View Works
Instead of device-based tracking, WorkSights uses IP addresses to determine approximately where the work was done. However, not all data sources provide IP addresses, and some IP addresses may reflect locations of cloud datacenters rather than actual user locations. WorkSights actively filters out such datacenter locations to ensure more accurate mapping.
Interacting with the Map
On the map, user avatars are shown to indicate team members’ locations for the day. Clicking on an avatar displays a quick list of activities tracked for that individual on that day. While there are some technical limits due to the Google Maps API on the number of avatars and activities displayed, the map provides a useful, approximate view of where work is being done.
Practical Benefits
This feature has proven valuable in real scenarios. For example, it helped managers discover unexpected remote work locations, which can have implications for compliance with insurance, workers' compensation, and tax regulations. It aids in maintaining good communication and avoiding surprises related to team location.
Filtering Capabilities
The Map View supports the same filtering options as the WorkSights dashboard's table view. You can filter by activity types, categories, and services to reduce noise and display only relevant information, making the map easier to interpret.

If you notice inaccuracies in IP address locations on the map, please use the chat feature inside WorkSights to report them. Your feedback helps improve data accuracy for your account and the broader WorkSights community.
